Overview

B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology is an undergraduate program from Jain (Deemed-to-be) University. Medical Laboratory Technology is a branch of medical science in performing clinical laboratory investigations which is the first step of diagnosis of any diseases followed with treatment and prevention. The course covers preclinical subjects such as Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Blood Banking and Basics in laboratory equipment. The programme provides knowledge and training for opted candidates to place in different clinical laboratories. Students enrolled are imparted training in laboratory management ethics through practical sessions, internal assessment, viva-voce and an internship training program/clinical postings in every semester. These professionals play an important role in collecting, sampling, analyzing, reporting and documenting of clinical investigations.

Program Outcome

  • Demonstrate understanding of basic sciences relevant to the specialty.
  • Acquire detailed knowledge about the fundamentals and advances of the respective speciality.
  • Update knowledge by self-study and by attending courses, conferences and seminars relevant to the specialty.
  • Undertake audit, use the information and carry out research both basic and professional with the aim of publishing or presenting the work at various scientific gatherings.
  • Perform routine clinical laboratory procedures within acceptable quality control parameters in Hematology, Chemistry, Immunohematology, and Microbiology under the general supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Pathologist.
  • Demonstrate technical skills, social behaviour, and professional awareness incumbent upon a laboratory technician as defined by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
  • Effect a transition of information and experiences learned in the MLT program to employment situations and performance on the written examinations conducted by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and/or the National Certifying Agency for Clinical Laboratory Personnel.
  • Apply systematized problem-solving techniques to identify and correct procedural errors, identify instrument malfunctions and seek proper supervisory assistance, and verify the accuracy of laboratory results obtained.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, utilizing appropriate quality control and safety procedures.
  • Perform within the guidelines of the code of ethics of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the restrictions established by state and local regulatory groups. Recognize and participate in activities which will provide current knowledge and upgrading of skills in laboratory medicine.

Elligibility Creteria

50% 10+2 from PUC/ICSE/CBS/ A Level/ US 12th Grade or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and pass in English/ IB 30 Credits
